Welcome to North Shore Model Aero Club (NSMAC Inc)About the North Shore Model Aero Club
The North Shore Model Aero Club (NSMAC) has been active since 1975. Originally based at Barrys Point in Takapuna, the club relocated to Green Road Park in Dairy Flat in 1995. Since then, we have steadily developed our flying site to support three distinct model aircraft disciplines, each with its own dedicated flying area—all located conveniently close to one another. Our Flying Areas • Fixed Wing Aircraft Our fixed-wing models are remotely controlled and powered by electric motors, internal combustion engines, or jet turbines. These aircraft operate from our 180-metre manicured runway. • Helicopters (Heli) Our Heli group flies a range of models including aerobatic, scale, and multi-rotor craft. Helicopters are flown from their dedicated Heli field, located next to the Control Line Circle. • Control Line We maintain a fully fenced, well-kept grass Control Line Circle with a concrete centre. Control Line aircraft are tethered models flown using two cables between the pilot’s handle and the aircraft. As the name suggests, they fly in a circular path but can also perform loops and other impressive manoeuvres. When We Fly The busiest times at the club are Saturday and Sunday mornings, but members are welcome to fly seven days a week. Important Safety & Membership Requirements Because our site is close to North Shore Airport, only current, financial NSMAC members may fly. This requirement is mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority under the Civil Aviation Act 2023, Part 101 and in the Memorandum of Understanding with North Shore Airport. Membership with Model Flying New Zealand (MFNZ) is also compulsory, as MFNZ holds the Part 102 Unmanned Aircraft Operator Certificate for all Model Aircraft Clubs in New Zealand. All pilots must be accompanied by a qualified observer while flying. Guest pilots from other MFNZ-affiliated clubs are welcome, provided they hold a current Wings Certificate qualification and comply with all NSMAC safety procedures and Club Bylaws. Guest flying is limited to three visits per calendar year, unless attending an official NSMAC special event day, in which case additional flying is permitted for the duration of the event. Join Us NSMAC welcomes new members and offers a structured training program for beginners. The membership application form can be found on this website under the “Join” tab. |

Be sure not to miss anything... Our Flying FieldOur Facilities
What began as a simple green paddock, 30 years ago—once shared with sheep—has been developed into what we proudly consider a best-in-class for a model flying site in New Zealand. As a member of the North Shore Aero Club, you can enjoy flying 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, weather permitting (and with the understanding of a supportive partner!). Our flying site is located within a working farm park owned by Auckland Council. The club operates under a community licence to occupy a designated portion of the park. Car Parking We provide an all-weather gravel car park accommodating approximately 20 vehicles, along with a large grass overflow area that can hold up to 100 cars. Vehicle access from the road is via a gravel driveway. Clubhouse Our clubhouse is a small, standalone building primarily used for the storage of essential equipment required for day-to-day flying activities and as a first aid room. Sun Shade & Assembly Area With the generous support of Pub Charity Ltd, we have installed approximately 30 metres of carport-style sunshade. This provides welcome shelter from sun and rain and includes large assembly tables where members can prepare and set up their models prior to flight, along with some BBQ tables. Toilet Facilities Thanks to support from Lotteries NZ, we have a wheelchair-accessible portable toilet on site. This facility is regularly serviced by Superloo to ensure cleanliness and reliability. Some great flying at our club... |
